Functional IVNT - Vitamin D

Introduction

Vitamin D is a representative nutrient that strengthens bones along with calcium. In addition, vitamin D is involved in the synthesis of serotonin, a hormone that increases happiness, and has the effect of reducing depression. In particular, there are research results showing that the direct cause of winter depression is due to a lack of vitamin D. The reasons are as follows.
Vitamin D can be obtained through food, but most of it is synthesized in the skin through sunlight. However, in Korea, there is a clear seasonal period when the amount of sunshine is low in winter, making it an environment where vitamin D is likely to be deficient. According to the National Health and Nutrition Survey, 93% of Koreans are deficient in vitamin D. In addition, office workers and students are even more vulnerable because they spend all day indoors without sunlight. Furthermore, patients with inflammatory bowel disease, people who have undergone small bowel resection, and the elderly are also prone to vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamin D plays a crucial role in strengthening the immune system. Several studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency can increase the risk of colds, flu, and other respiratory infections. It may also reduce the risk of developing autoimmune diseases.
